About Comrades Marathon Association
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is responsible for organizing the Comrades Marathon, one of the world's oldest and largest ultramarathons, held annually in South Africa. Established in 1921, the event attracts thousands of runners from around the globe, promoting endurance running and sportsmanship. The CMA is dedicated to fostering a culture of running and healthy living, while also supporting various charitable initiatives. The marathon alternates between a 'down' run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and an 'up' run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, covering a distance of approximately 89 kilometers (55 miles). The association also engages in community outreach and development programs to encourage participation in athletics at all levels.
