About Global Environment Facility
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is an international partnership of 183 countries, international institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector that addresses global environmental issues. Established in 1991, the GEF provides funding for projects that benefit the global environment and promote sustainable development. It focuses on areas such as biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants. The GEF operates through a network of implementing agencies, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Bank, among others. The GEF plays a critical role in financing initiatives that aim to protect the planet's ecosystems and promote sustainable practices across various sectors. By leveraging resources and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, the GEF aims to create a sustainable future for all.
