About International Gorilla Conservation Programme
The International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP) is a collaborative initiative aimed at the conservation of the mountain gorilla and its habitat in the Virunga Massif region of East Africa. Established in 2003, IGCP works in partnership with various stakeholders, including local communities, governments, and conservation organizations, to promote sustainable development and protect the biodiversity of the region. The program focuses on habitat protection, community engagement, and research to ensure the survival of the mountain gorilla population. Through education and awareness campaigns, IGCP strives to foster a culture of conservation among local communities, emphasizing the importance of gorillas to the ecosystem and the potential economic benefits of wildlife tourism. The organization also supports anti-poaching efforts and collaborates with local authorities to enforce wildlife protection laws.
