Molycorp, Inc. was a mining company that focused on the production of rare earth elements, which are critical for various high-tech applications, including electronics, renewable energy, and defense technologies. The company operated the Mountain Pass mine in California, which was one of the largest rare earth mines in the world. Molycorp aimed to establish a sustainable supply chain for rare earth materials, reducing reliance on foreign sources. Despite its efforts to revitalize the domestic rare earth industry, the company faced significant financial challenges and filed for bankruptcy in 2015. The assets were subsequently acquired by a new entity, but the brand and operations have largely ceased to exist as they were known during Molycorp's peak.
