About Monitoring The Future
Monitoring the Future (MTF) is a long-term research project that surveys the behaviors, attitudes, and values of American adolescents and young adults. Established in 1975, MTF aims to provide insights into the trends and patterns of substance use, as well as other social behaviors among youth. The study is conducted by the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan and is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). MTF employs a nationally representative sample and collects data through annual surveys, which are used to inform policymakers, educators, and public health officials about the changing landscape of youth behavior. The findings from MTF are widely cited in academic research and public health discussions, making it a critical resource for understanding youth culture and substance use trends in the United States.
